Republican eyes register of wills office
An East Washington Republican hopes to be the first person from his party in generations to be elected Washington County register of wills.
Jerad Cypher, 29, East Washington Borough councilman and former council president, has worked on balanced budgets, participated in contract negotiations and implemented technology to help reduce costs.
While working with the borough’s public works department, he has coordinated expenses and organized capital budgets.
Cypher holds a bachelor’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania, studying business administration and public communications.
He also has experience in human resources management, project management and cost analysis.
In addition to council, Cypher consulted with and operated under state Rep. Tim O’Neal as 48th District office manager for two legislative offices.
“I am a candidate for register of wills because I can apply my management skills to upgrading the services that the office provides to our constituents,” Cypher said.
“We need to bring new leadership, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the office of register of wills. My philosophy is built around a user-friendly experience. This is done by simplifying processes and utilizing technology.”
Mary Jo Poknis is retiring from the row office after three four-year terms. The register of wills is also clerk of Orphan’s Court, so the salary of $89,815 is $2,000 higher than that of other Washington County row officers.
Suzanne Archer, deputy clerk of Orphan’s Court, previously announced her candidacy for the Democratic primary.
