Charleroi man charged with strangulation
A Charleroi man was jailed after allegedly threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend Saturday evening.
Charleroi Regional police said Mark R. Zabielski, 42, of 603 Tenth St., had been drinking with his ex-girlfriend at his residence when he “became aggressive” about 6 p.m.
Zabielski allegedly threatened the woman, stating “I’m going to kill you tonight,” and “Tonight’s going to be the day you die,” according to the criminal complaint. He then allegedly punched her several times in the back of her head, placed his hands around her neck and choked her.
The woman told police that Zabielski choked her multiple times to the point that she couldn’t breathe, the complaint said. She told police that when she was able to get away from him, she ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911.
Police said the woman had marks on her neck, a bump on the back of her head and bruises on her arm.
Zabielski was charged with strangulation, terroristic threats and simple assault. He was arraigned Sunday afternoon by District Judge Traci McDonald and jailed on $25,000 bond.
