Monessen heroin dealer sentenced in federal court

A Monessen man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to 11 years and eight months in prison for distributing large quantities of heroin.
U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Donald Mitchell, 38, who was convicted of violating federal narcotics laws, said a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady.
The prosecution said Mitchell was a heroin distributor for the Jarran Bell drug trafficking organization.
In early April 2015, three coconspirators traveled to Paterson, N.J., to orchestrate a 250-brick shipment of heroin, and then gave 100 bricks to Mitchell.
From December 2014 through April 2015, Mitchell received more than a kilogram of heroin from Bell.
The drugs were distributed in Clairton, McKeesport, Port Vue, areas in Washington and Westmoreland counties, and New Jersey.
