MONONGAHELA – A Donora man charged in a brutal assault last month waived his charges, including attempted homicide, in exchange for his pending release from jail.

Jerimiah White, 18, is scheduled to appear Friday before Washington County Court Judge Gary Gilman for a bail hearing where the suspect is expected to be released under house arrest, said his attorney, Ryan M. Tutera of Pittsburgh.

“He’s a young kid who has never been in trouble before,” Tutera said after his client appeared before District Judge Mark Wilson in Monongahela.

White, of 432 Liberty Ave. was arrested May 23, a day after he was accused of kicking and punching Ethen Sandy, causing injuries that required the removal of the victim’s spleen.

The 12:30 a.m. assault at Sixth Street and Thompson Avenue reportedly was captured on surveillance video.

District Judge Jesse Pettit ordered White to be held without bond in Washington County jail as “no condition other than imprisonment will reasonably assure the safety of victim and/or community,” online court records state.

Tutera declined to comment on what prompted the assault.

Deputy Assistant Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said no promises regarding a plea deal were made to White in court Wednesday.

Walsh said it was too early to say whether the attempted homicide charge would be withdrawn against White.

White also is facing charges of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
