Deputy county treasurer seeks top job
Washington County Deputy Treasurer Lisa Carpenter has announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination as county treasurer.
During her 16 years in the treasurer’s office, Carpenter, 56, of Washington, has cross-trained to perform functions which include collecting current and delinquent taxes, keeping track of all county revenues, issuing licenses for hunting, fishing, dogs, small games of chance and bingo, and sportsmen’s permits for firearms.
She also stressed her background in bookkeeping, banking, managerial responsibilities and dealing with various aspects of the county’s property reassessment, which she called “grueling.”
Carpenter has been deputy to county Treasurer Francis King, who will be retiring at the end of his current term, for the past two years.
“I am seeking this position as I have acquired ample knowledge and experience during my tenure in the treasurer’s office and I believe I am the most qualified candidate to serve the residents of Washington County,” she said in a news release.
A Trinity High School graduate, Carpenter attended Waynesburg University, majoring in accounting.
She has also worked in finance and administration with local corporations. Her volunteer activities include the American Cancer Society, Washington Youth Baseball and TWIST softball.
Carpenter and her husband, Lear, are the parents of two children.
Republicans Tom Flickinger and David Bordaty and Democrat Joe Manning previously announced their candidacies for treasurer, which has an annual salary of $87,815.
