About 25 undergraduates from Washington & Jefferson College and the University of Pittsburgh will be doing roadside and streamside spring cleaning Thursday along Route 18 and Hewitt Avenue in Canton and Chartiers Townships. The cleanup will be from 12:30 to 4 p.m.and will be done in cooperation with the Washington County Watershed Alliance. Removing litter that can end up in waterways is critical. Watershed specialist Jennifer Dann will provide information about water sampling and testing in the Chartiers Creek Watershed. The cleanup is part of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Great American Cleanup.

Another KPB spring cleanup is scheduled for March 30 and volunteers are needed. The Buffalo Creek Watershed Association will hold its annual pre-opening day of trout cleanup at Dutch Fork Lake and along Lake Road. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. in the large parking area at the lake, just off Route 40 between Claysville and West Alexander in Donegal Township. Gloves, safety vests, and bags are provided by the state Department of Transportation. For more information please call 724-484-7537.

Any groups, small families, church groups, sports teams can participate in Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Great American Cleanup, which started March 1 and continues to May 31. Visit www.keeppabeautiful.org or washcokpb@gmail.com for more information.
