Tharp announces re-election campaign for Greene register and recorder
WAYNESBURG – Incumbent Donna J. Tharp announced she is seeking a second full term for the office of Greene County Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds and is running for the Democratic nomination in the May 21 primary.
Tharp first served as deputy Register of Wills for 17 years under then-Register and Recorder Thomas M. Headlee. Upon Headlee’s retirement in December 2013, she became the acting Register and Recorder from 2014 thru 2015. She then won election in 2016 for the full term for the office of Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds.
She said she has worked to make updates to improve the office, making it more efficient, secure and user friendly. Tharp said she streamlined paperwork and reports for faster and more efficient processing. To preserve the original estate files and the military discharge DD214 forms for future reference, they were relocated from the public office space to a secure storage area in her office, she said.
As Register of Wills, she is responsible for the probate process for wills and estates, along with other estate related documents such as the state inheritance tax returns. The position is also accountable for collection of the Greene County Inheritance Tax for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. Her duties also include recording land records, lot plans, highway maps, and mine subsidence maps along with the confidential filing of military discharges DD214 forms. She is also accountable for the collection of the Greene County Reality Transfer Tax for the state Department of Revenue.
“I would appreciate the opportunity to serve Greene County for a second term,” Tharp said. “I am confident that the knowledge and experience I have gained running this office will allow me to continue to perform my duties with efficient and dedicated service.”
Tharp is a member of the Greene County Safety Committee, West Greene Lions Club, Democratic Women’s Committee, Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds Association and the Pennsylvania Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court Association.
She resides in Wind Ridge with her husband, Sonny Tharp. They have three children and five grandchildren.
