Food drive, indoor market events planned

The Washington County Farm Bureau has added a new dimension this year to its annual food drive: a competition among agriculture-related businesses.
Don Carter, longtime leader of the drive, identified the competitors as Eighty Four Agway; Mike’s Feed, 310 Cleveland Road, Washington; Rural King, Washington Crown Center; Middletown Tractor, 910 Henderson Ave., Washington; Log Cabin Fence, Ten Mile Road, Amity; and Ann’s Feed, 1045 Jefferson Ave., Washington.
They are collecting through the end of March.
The annual food drive to benefit the Greater Washington County Food Bank has also included competitions among local libraries 4-H clubs.
The food bank estimates 25,000 residents of Washington come under the label of “food insecure.” Among this population, 30 percent are children and 20 percent are senior citizens.

farmers market
What has become known as the South Main Street Farmers Market – Winter Edition will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Marketplace at Emerald Valley, 145 S. Main St.
It is an indoor market featuring vendors, many of whom participate in the weekly Main Street Farmers Market from April to October. Parking will be free at the Community Pavilion.
