Suspect captured following police pursuit in Centerville
CENTERVILLE – A Waynesburg man who was wanted on warrants and driving a stolen pickup truck was arrested Wednesday following a police pursuit, court records allege.
State police took Tyler Andrew Gump, 27, into custody about 2:45 a.m. at Front Street and Ferry Avenue, Fredericktown, after he and a passenger jumped out of the truck while it was still moving, the affidavit indicates.
The passenger, Chloe Ellen Jones, was struck by one of the truck’s tires before she surrendered to troopers. Gump was accused of fleeing on foot, only to be taken into custody after a 100-yard foot chase.
The first encounter police had with Gump involved a sobriety checkpoint about 4 p.m. Saturday at 100 Front St. in East Bethlehem Township. He was accused of providing a false name to police at the time.
Troopers arrested him under suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and released him into the custody of a friend, police stated in court records.
The truck Gump was driving that afternoon was reported stolen Sunday to state police in Waynesburg by its owner, Jeffrey Shriver.
Troopers traveled to Centerville Wednesday to look for the truck, and they attempted to pull it over when Gump drove off at a high speed from Route 40 at Old National Pike, court records allege.
Gump allegedly admitted to being under the influence of Sobutex during the pursuit, and was taken again to Mon Valley Hospital for a blood test. He was eventually placed in Washington County jail on warrants.
He was charged with escape, receiving stolen property, fleeing from police, reckless endangerment, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended or revoked license, giving police a false identification and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
District Judge Joshua Kanalis denied bond for Gump during his arraignment Wednesday.
He was wanted at the time for a probation violation involving a 2017 theft case in Carroll Township. He also provided Washington County Court with an address that is no longer used by him. He also was shown in recent court documents as having an address in Marianna.
Meanwhile, Jones had not been charged in connection with the cases, online court records indicate.
