A Washington man was jailed early Wednesday on allegations he severely assaulted a woman over several days in his residence.

District Judge Joshua Kanalis sent George Gatchell, 40, to Washington County jail on $100,000 bond after Washington police were called to his 418 E. Maiden St. apartment about 11 p.m. Tuesday, court records show.

Police kicked in the door after hearing a woman crying uncontrollably and took Gatchell to the floor.

The woman was found sitting on a bathroom floor. Her face was extremely swollen, to the point were her eyes were nearly closed. She also had suffered bruises all over her body, and a possible broken rib, police stated in the affidavit.

The woman told police that Gatchell had been assaulting her all week, and that she was unable to call police for help.

Gatchell is charged with domestic violence relating to aggravated assault and simple assault.
