The price of gasoline rose again in the Washington area, yet remained among the cheapest in Western Pennsylvania.

A gallon of unleaded self-serve in and around the city averages $2.716 this week, a 4.2-cent bump from $2.674 a week ago. Yet, the new price is the second lowest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA East Central, which issued the weekly report Monday afternoon.

For the second week in a row, only New Castle ($2.678) has a lower average than Washington. But since Jan. 8, Washington’s price has increased by 25.5 cents from $2.461.

The average across Western Pennsylvania remained at $2.791, 7.5 cents higher than Washington. The regional price is up 1.6 cents from a year ago.

Ten of those 22 Western Pennsylvania towns this week have an average price equal to or greater than that of the region. Kittanning has the most expensive petrol – $2.865 – followed closely by Mercer ($2.864).

Pennsylvania’s average rose again, by four cents to $2.791. The Keystone State is part of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region, where average prices range from $2.42 to $2.81.

The Mid-Atlantic/Northeast is the only region in the country to experience an increase in gasoline stock, although that was a marginal 442,000 barrels. The stock remained in the 63 million range, though, which helped keep price changes moderate in the region, according to the Energy Information Administration.

The national average bumped up another eight cents, to $2.62. That is 31 cents more expensive than a month ago, but only two cents higher than late March 2018.
