They’ve gone back up.
One week after Western Pennsylvania reveled in a rare dip in gasoline prices – a mere six-tenths of a cent – they bumped up 6.3 cents to $3.099 for a gallon of unleaded self-serve, AAA East Central announced Monday afternoon. That latest figure is 4.1 cents higher than it was a year ago.
Washington experienced a similar increase, 5.4 cents from $3.006 to $3.060. Washington’s average has jumped 59.9 cents from $2.461 on Jan. 8.
The city’s average is the fifth-lowest among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns monitored by AAA. Altoona ($2.993) is the only town below $3.00. DuBois ($3.009) has the second-lowest price, while Warren ($3.159) has the most expensive petrol. Only 1.66 cents separate the cheapest and most expensive.
Pennsylvania’s average rose seven cents to $3.05, making it the only state in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region above $3.00. But Connecticut ($2.99), Washington, D.C. ($2.96) and New York ($2.95) are on the verge.
Gasoline stocks in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region grew by 860,000 barrels, the biggest jump of any region nationwide, the Energy Information Administration reported. Stock levels, however, are a tight 60 million barrels with the summer travel season down the pike.
The national average rose four cents to $2.88, the high for this year.
