He’s equipped for job with an expanding company
Shawn Davis is the territory manager for Cloverdale Equipment Co. of Pennsylvania. And it is an extensive territory.
“I cover anywhere we go basically,” he said. That would be the northern panhandle of West Virginia, eastern Ohio and – of course – Southwestern Pennsylvania.
“Most days I’m on the road. I’m free to drum up business.”
That business would be equipment rentals and sales. Davis, a McGuffey High School and Washington & Jefferson College graduate, is one of four employees working at Cloverdale’s newest branch, off Mayview Road in South Fayette Township, a chip shot from the Upper St. Clair line.
Cloverdale Equipment Co., according to its website, “is a full-service construction equipment distributor and rental company.” It is a 56-year-old, privately held, employee-owned company that is based in Oak Park, Mich., and has three branches: in North Shores, Mich.; Berea, Ohio; and now South Fayette.
Davis said he has been involved in equipment rentals for 12 years, all in the Pittsburgh region. He said his new company has been in an expansion mode over the past decade or so, striving to open a new facility every four or five years and about 125 miles apart.
Cloverdale has 112 employees companywide, Davis said, adding that he anticipates having a local workforce of 10 to 12 by mid summer.
Going formal
Formal dresses are the specialty in a boutique Erin Bywaters and Colleen Manzini have opened in Peters Township.
Isn’t She Lovely Cache opened March 23 in the Shops on the Trail, 522 Valley Brook Road. The owners give customers options: they may purchase a formal dress and resell it, or rent a dress.
“Our concept is twofold,” Bywaters said in an email. “You can consign a dress and get money back . . . Another lucky lady then gets to rock the dress for a fraction of the retail cost, whether that be through resale or rental. There are options depending on whether alterations need done and client preference.”

Dudt earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Grove City College, then started his engineering career with a two-year stint in Dubai. He joined Karpinski in 2009.
The Karpinski team in Canonsburg provides engineering services for clients in the health care, higher education, corporate and hospitality sectors.

Hospitals honored
- Women’s Choice Award has selected
- Monongahela Valley Hospital
- as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience. The designation signifies that the Carroll Township facility ranks in the top 10 percent of similar-sized hospitals, based on number of beds.
- St. Clair Hospital,
- in Mt. Lebanon, has been honored again by Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that rates health-care facilities. Leapfrog last week released its safety grades for spring 2019 and gave St. Clair got an A for “its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.” That is the 14th straight “grading period” in which St. Clair has gotten an A from Leapfrog, which assigns grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals nationwide, based on preventing medical issues.
