Teen Outreach to hold Awards Night

Washington Health System Teen Outreach will hold its 17th annual Awards Night on at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Park Elementary School. The public is invited and admission is free.

The event recognizes individuals, community agencies and businesses that have provided extraordinary support in the past year to the Teen Outreach mission to young people. Senior Peer Educators are also recognized. All the awardees demonstrate exceptional commitment to youth.

Peer Educator members from the Real Talk Performers will perform the original educational drama “If You Only Knew Me” to open the Awards Night.

2019 awardees are:

Agency Award: Our Kids Kloset, for outstanding support of the Teen Outreach mission to raise awareness of the needs of young people and support them.

Alumni Achievement Award: Drew E. Ross Manko, manager of the Ross Farm, for his passionate embrace of his family’s business.

Business Award: Portnoff Law Association, for over a decade of consistent support for the Teen Outreach mission to youth.

Community Award: Dreamers, for outstanding commitment to the health and wellness of our community’s children.

Educator Award: Brandy LaQuatra, teacher at the Washington School District, for her outstanding support to young people as she teachers with an awareness of the needs of the whole child.

Fellowship Award: Beth Israel Synagogue, for its decades-long commitment to the well-being of our community.

Inclusion Award: Rita Cheskiewicz for her outstanding commitment to and respect for individuals of all abilities, demonstrated by her work with Include Me.

Power Award: Kevin J. McCarty of Jefferson Morgan School District and Brenda Fronzaglio and Kris Krivanek for their support for education on cyberbullying to raise awareness of the need for Respect Online.

President’s Award: Dr. Lexx James, consulting author for “Nonnie Talks about Consent,” and Dr. Steven Brown, consulting author for “Nonnie Talks about Trauma,” for their wisdom and guidance in the creation of the eighth and ninth books in The Nonnie Series.

School Administrator Award: Nancy Aloi and Garrette Edmonds, retired administers who remain active in education, for their ongoing and tireless support of the Teen Outreach mission and young people’s well-being.

Service Award: Washington Bar Association, for support for the Teen Outreach program Respect Online.

Social Justice Award: Classrooms without Borders, for inspiring teachers, students and our community to action by imparting universal human values and by promoting diversity, altruism, forgiveness, courage, respect and faith in humanity.

Spirit Award: Chriss Henderson, for directing the Teen Outreach tobacco program with courage and initiative.

Youth Advocate Award: Aaron Miller of Dreamer and the Life Church for outstanding dedication to young people.

Volunteer Award: Grace Abror of Washington & Jefferson College, for her stellar commitment to the Teen Outreach Common Ground Teen Center.

Special Lifetime Achievement awards will be given to Charles Mahoney and Rich Mahoney, for their outstanding commitment to the health and well-being of young people and their decades-long support for Teen Outreach.

The Common Ground Teen Center 2018-19 Teen Center Staff, Ian Anderson, Bailey Batch, LaShauna Carruthers, Daniel Gysi, Shae Naylor, Mac Scholz, Angela Pinkerton and Maiden Wise, will be honored for their commitment to the center.

Alumni participants in the 2019 Washington’s Got Talent production will be acknowledged and honored.
