Freedom Transit marks initiation of Mon Valley bus route

After initiating bus service April 29 between Washington and Monongahela via Peters Township and Finleyville, Freedom Transit will mark its first month of service.
A ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m Wednesday at Monongahela Manor, 401 W. Main St., and officials plan to cut a ribbon as a bus departs Monongahela for Washington at 1:10 p.m.
Representatives from Mid-Mon Valley Transit will also attend
Freedom Transit’s Mon Valley bus route, called County Line B, provides two trips in each direction each weekday.
The one-way fare is $2.50 to ride from Washington to Monongahela and vice versa.
Mid-Mon Valley and Washington Freedom Transit routes intersect in Monongahela at two designated stops; Monongahela Manor and the parking lot of the Sheetz convenience store, 111 E. Main St.
Local full fare on Mid-Mon Valley Transit is $2.
Washington County Transportation Authority is inviting those from area communities to attend the ceremony.
The bus route includes Tanger Outlets, The Meadows Racetrack, Donaldson’s Crossroads shopping center, Valley Brook Road and Finleyville to the Mon-Fayette Expressway.

“The ridership on the new County Line B route has been modest but is improving week by week,” wrote Alexandra Sakalik, outreach and marketing coordinator of Freedom Transit, in response to an email inquiry.
Washington-based Freedom Transit previously provided service on Route 19 in Peters only on Saturdays when its Metro buses connect with the South Hills Village “T” station as their access to downtown Pittsburgh.
Metro bus Saturday service continues as usual.
