The investigation continues into the cause of a Christmas Eve fire in South Union Township that claimed one life and totally destroyed a home.

Fayette County 911 said the call came in at 6:38 p.m. for a fire at 204 Shaffers Corner Road.

Trooper Edward Stasko, State Police at Uniontown fire marshal, said the victim was an adult male, who had not been identified.

Numerous fire companies responded to the blaze and weren’t even aware there was a victim for some time.

“They were out there for several hours,” Stasko said. “It was hours before they even knew anything because there was no one else around.”

Stasko said that fire was one of a number that took place during an abnormally cold holiday weekend.

“That was the only fatal I had, but the fires I had over the weekend were unbelievable,” Stasko said. “With all of the thawing pipes, I don’t know what they were trying to use, blow dryers, dryers. They were using everything under the sun to try to keep everything warm.”
