One person killed in wrong-way crash on Mon-Fayette Expressway

One person was killed in a wrong-way crash on the Mon-Fayette Expressway Sunday morning. 

Tyler Smith, 24, of Roscoe, was traveling south in the northbound lane of the toll road near Elco when he collided with another vehicle, according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco. The accident occurred at the 32.9 mile marker near California borough about 2:54 a.m.

Smith was pronounced dead at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital at 3:37 a.m. Another person was injured in the accident, and they were taken to a Pittsburgh hospital, according to a dispatcher with Washington County 911.

The accident is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.

Brownsville Ambulance and the California Fire Department assisted at the scene.
