Dog days
Beans cools off by lying on top of a mound of ice left over from the water pools that held hydrating drinks for runners after the Firecracker 5K held Tuesday in Brentwood as part of Fourth of July festivities. The dog days of summer typically lasts from July 3 to Aug. 11. They’re usually the hottest and most unbearable days of the season. The phrase is a reference to Sirius, the Dog Star, which is part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. In the summer, Sirius rises and sets with the sun.
