Uniontown teenager wanted in fatal shooting
A 14-year-old has been charged as an adult in the shooting death of a man in Uniontown on Tuesday.
Antonyo Owens, of Uniontown, faces a felony charge of homicide for allegedly shooting and killing Anthony Jones, 38, of Uniontown, at about 11:25 a.m. on Clarke Street, near Calvary United Methodist Church.
According to the criminal complaint, Jones had told a relative prior to the shooting that Owens sent text messages threatening to kill him.
Police obtained surveillance footage that showed both Owens and Jones walking together down an alley toward Clarke Street. According to the complaint, the footage shows Owens firing a gun toward Jones multiple times before he fell to the ground.
Police said Owens continued firing after Jones fell, and then went through Jones’ pockets before leaving the scene. Owens reportedly returned shortly after to pick up an object he dropped in the middle of the street.
“Antonyo Owens is then observed walking over the Anthony Jones’ motionless body, bending over and looking directly at his face” before fleeing with his hood pulled down, according to the complaint.
Police said Owens was under supervision by Fayette County juvenile probation for a February 2021 aggravated assault. His probation officer identified him as the person in the surveillance footage.
Owens also faces felony charges of prohibited possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor and a misdemeanor of reckless endangerment.
State police continue to investigate the shooting, and there is an active warrant for Owens’ arrest. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact state police at 724-439-7111 or to call 911.
