NORTH STRABANE
Vehicular assault: Ricardo Martinez, 26, is charged by North Strabane police with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, accidents involving death or injury while not licensed, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence. Police said Martinez refused to provide his address. According to the criminal complaint, Martinez was driving at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred at the intersection of Latimer Avenue and View Avenue around 4 p.m. Saturday. Police said Martinez failed to stop and struck Frank Hervol’s vehicle as he turned left onto Latimer from View. Both Martinez and Hervol were flown to hospitals in Pittsburgh with serious injuries. Police said they could smell alcohol on Martinez’s breath, and there were beer bottles in his vehicle. Martinez has not been arraigned on the charges.
WASHINGTONArson: Ryan Elroy Johnson, 38, of Washington, is charged by Washington police with aggravated arson, risking catastrophe and reckless endangerment. According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Johnson’s home in the 600 block of Beech Street shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday for a fire. Almost immediately Johnson told police the fire was his fault, the complaint stated. Johnson told officers that after an argument with his girlfriend, he lit a Steelers jersey on fire and it got out of control. Johnson was arraigned Sunday afternoon before District Judge James Saieva, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $100,000 bond.
