Clean and Tidy Washington County Inc., is in need of volunteers to help in its effort to transform plastic bottle caps and lids into park benches and picnic tables.

Individuals and groups are needed for its Marathon Sorting Event, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Fourth Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Jefferson and Wylie avenues in Washington.

The caps, which are collected all over Washington County, need to be sorted and, in some cases, cleaned or have cardboard or metal removed. The material is then made intro useful furniture for area parks instead of adding to the landfill. Volunteers are asked to sign up for two-hour sessions.

Those interested in helping should contact Clean and Tidy’s director, Fern Sibert, at 724-456-1780.
