Uniontown man accused of taking loaded gun through airport security
A Uniontown man faces is accused of carrying a loaded handgun while going through airport security Tuesday evening.
According to Allegheny County police, officers with the Transportation Security Administration found the gun in a carry-on bag belonging to Domonique Hickenbottom, 29, at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Police said Hickenbottom is in custody, and was charged with felonies of persons not to possess a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
Police notified the FBI about the incident, and noted that taking firearms into an airport security checkpoint can result in a federal civil fine of up to $10,000.
Unloaded firearms are permitted to be carried in a locked, hard-sided case inside checked baggage only, and must be declared when checking bags at the airline ticket counter, according to the TSA.
Hickenbottom was arraigned on the charges Wednesday morning before District Judge James Hanley Jr., who released him on $5,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 30.
