Staff, volunteers and their cheerleaders gathered at 92 N. Main St. on Friday evening to kick off the Common Ground Teen Center’s annual See Saw Marathon fundraiser. About 100 young people registered to keep the see-saw moving for 24 hours, taking half-hour turns swaying up and down on the handmade see-saw.
“My legs are definitely going to be sore,” laughed Chartiers-Houston junior Ella Richey at the start of her shift.
While pairs of young people chatted and see-sawed, other teens cheered them on or solicited donations from passersby. This year, the center aims to raise $45,000 to keep its doors open and its programming, which includes a weekly cooking club, banned book club and social hour, running. The 24-hour see-saw marathon began at 4 p.m. Friday and wrapped up at 4 p.m. Saturday.
