Creativity Crawl coming to Washington
The work of local artists, plus a chance for kids to show some creative flair, is coming to North Main Street in Washington.
The Creativity Crawl, described as “A Block Party of Artistic Proportions,” is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.
“For the first time, we’re shutting down North Main Street and the block between West Beau and West Chestnut (streets),” said Shana Brown, Main Street manager for the Washington Business District Authority. “We’re going to have all kinds of artists and makers and live music and performances from local talent. All of the businesses will be open and doing specials on that North Main block.”
The event will include displays and sales of the work of local artists, specials at North Main Street businesses, a kids area featuring a chance to “Chalk the Block,” food vendors, live performances by local artists and artwork by Spencer Richman at World West Galleries.
“We really wanted for once to shift the focus to North Main,” Brown said. “Those businesses are amazing. A lot of the attention goes to the (Main Street) pavilion and that’s not even half of our downtown. We really wanted to do an event on North Main.”
Also scheduled is an edible art edition of a kitchen clash from the Washington PA Food Group from 5 to 6 p.m.
This vegan edition of the kitchen clash will pit Sandi Kern, who runs a virtual health and lifestyle coaching practice, against Bonnie Handerhan of Crazy Horse Coffee. Guest judges will be Carole DeAngelo, director of advertising and events for the Observer-Reporter; Samantha Cortese, an area artist, and Amy Cottrill, owner and founder of pittsburghvegan.com and the organizer of the Pittsburgh Vegan Expo.
“We wanted to do a kitchen clash around the theme of the day, so we came up with edible art, basically a beautiful looking plate with some taste,” said Nate Mass, Washington PA Food Group’s Facebook page. “It’s going to be more about the beauty of the plate.”
The Double Take Band will be performing from 6 to 8 p.m.
An after party is planned at Venue 19 North at the end of the crawl.
“There’s going to be a little something for everybody,” Brown said. “As always, everybody has banded to gather to support it.”
