A Cecil Intermediate School student’s artwork has been selected for inclusion in the state Office of Attorney General’s 2024 drug-free calendar.

Juliana Vogini’s autumn piece, which features vibrant fall foliage, a pumpkin spice latte and the message, “Thanks a latte for not doing drugs,” was one of 13 artworks chosen for the calendar. Her drawing represents the month of November.

“Our annual calendar contest is about celebrating the talents of our incredible students and empowering young people to make smart, safe choices,” Attorney General Michelle Henry said in a news release.

Each October, National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, fifth-graders across the state are encouraged to create original works of art that promote a drug-free lifestyle. This year, the attorney general’s office received more than 2,000 submissions from 482 schools in 42 counties to the contest, which is funded through the Community Drug Abuse Prevention Fund.

Vogini was the only student artist in Washington, Greene or Fayette counties to have her piece selected for the 2024 calendar.

The 13 winners – one winner per month, plus a calendar cover artist – will each receive a certificate and a $529 contribution to their Pennsylvania 529 College Savings Program, supervised by the state treasury department.

The calendar will be used statewide to educate the public about the dangers of drug use.

“Combatting the addiction epidemic continues to be one of my top priorities, and a big part of our collaborative approach is education to deter young people from experimenting or trying illegal substances,” Henry said. “This calendar allows our students to be leaders in conveying messaging that can save lives and keep people healthy.”
