Central Greene School District Superintendent Dr. Kevin Monaghan announced that he will be retiring from his position, effective Jan. 1.
He has served as superintendent for the school district since October 2020.
At its Dec. 5 reorganization meeting, the school board set a special meeting date for Dec. 19 to accept Monaghan’s resignation and to appoint an acting administrator.
Monaghan, who is on medical leave and is recovering from injuries sustained in a Nov. 1 car accident, said he is retiring in order to spend more time with his family and to address medical issues.
“It wasn’t an easy decision. It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the students and families in the Central Greene School District,” said Monaghan. “I’ve never worked with a greater group of teachers and staff members, and I’ll cherish the time I’ve been here.”
Monaghan began his teaching career as a middle school science teacher at South Fayette School District, and served as a middle school principal and federal programs coordinator in the South Park School District before accepting the top role at Central Greene.
Said Monaghan, “Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow. When I work, I give 100%. I felt I had to set my priorities. I want to thank the Central Greene School District for the support over the years, and I wish them the best.”
