A family of four was rescued from the roof of their Monongahela home after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.

According to a Washington County 911 supervisor, emergency crews were called to 432 Park Ave. shortly after 4 a.m. after the family reported a fire in their kitchen.

The family, two adults and two children, were unable to escape the house and climbed out of a window and onto the roof of the porch. According to 911, they were all transported to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital for evaluation. An EMT was also transported for smoke inhalation.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
