Two people were injured Sunday afternoon when they fell over a steep embankment near Fayette City.

Both had to be rescued from the hillside near Johnson Hollow Road in Washington Township after falling about 50 feet, according to Rostraver Central Fire Department.

Firefighters from Washington Township and neighboring Rostraver worked to stabilize the hillside where they fell to rescue the victims. They were both flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital for treatment, according to a post on Rostraver Central Fire’s Facebook page.

The two people’s identities and the severity of their injuries were not immediately released. It’s also not immediately known how they fell over the hillside.

Rostraver-West Newton Emergency Services assisted firefighters at the scene.
