Though garbage collection rates are rising, Peters Township residents can expect their taxes to remain steady next year.

Peters Township council held a public hearing on the preliminary 2024 budget Monday night. Township Manager Paul Lauer said the millage rate will stay at 1.7 mills.

The budget is available for public review on Peters’ website. As it currently stands, the township budget anticipates spending more than $16.8 million next year, while collecting $18.6 million in revenues.

Lauer said he expects council to formally adopt the 2024 budget at its Dec. 18 meeting.

Peters residents will still be on the hook for a spike in garbage collection rates, however.

Council approved an ordinance at a meeting earlier this month that will raise the quarterly cost for curb collection from $70 to $100. In addition, residents will be limited to one bin for garbage and one bin for recycling. Waste Management will supply extra at the cost of $100 per year per bin.
