The former treasurer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Washington was charged in September with stealing $12,000 of the organization’s money, but law enforcement has been unable to locate him to serve the arrest warrant.

Frank McVicker, 53, of Washington, was charged by Washington police on Sept. 29 with felonies of theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception.

According to the criminal complaint, McVicker is accused of making nearly $12,000 in personal purchases with the club’s credit card between November 2022 and the following August. Some of those purchases included plane tickets and jewelry.

Greg Atkins, commander of VFW Post 927, said Thursday that he was growing frustrated that McVicker has not yet been arrested on the charges.

“I couldn’t get any response from our local powers-that-be. No one would give me a straight answer,” Atkins said.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said the arrest warrant has not been served because law enforcement has been unable to locate McVicker.

Washington police did not respond to a request for comment.

Atkins said that the club “took a hit” as a result of the theft and had to cut back on some of its charitable giving to local organizations last year. However, he said they caught on to the missing funds before more significant damage was done.

“We took a hit, but we’re still on our feet. We’re putting money in the bank and all of our bills are paid,” Atkins said.

According to the criminal complaint, McVicker confessed to the VFW’s board when he was confronted about the charges to the credit card.
