An attempted homicide charge filed against a Waynesburg woman accused of stabbing another woman earlier this month was dismissed during her preliminary hearing last week, although she will still stand trial on other charges.

District Judge Lee Watson dismissed the most serious charge against Keira Lynn Knox during her preliminary hearing Thursday, while holding all other charges for court, including felony counts of aggravated assault and child endangerment.

Knox, 22, is accused of stabbing Lona Thomas in the shoulder and left cheek on April 1 at a residence in the 100 block of West Elm Street in Waynesburg.

A witness told Waynesburg police that he heard Knox threaten to kill Thomas. However, Knox claimed she was acting in self-defense, as Thomas was attempting to stab her with a kitchen knife, according to court documents.

Knox is also still facing misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment. She is being held at the Greene County jail on $150,000 bond while awaiting trial.
