One person was seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into a building in Smith Township Monday morning.

According to a Washington County 911 supervisor, first responders were called to 13 Liberty Ave. at about 4:38 a.m. The supervisor said the driver had struck the Slovenian Club and was trapped in his vehicle.

Smith Township Police Chief Winford LaRue said that the driver was a 29-year-old Smith Township man, but declined to identify him.

The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash, LaRue said.

Once the driver was extricated, he was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. LaRue did not have an update on his condition Monday afternoon.

According to 911, power to the club had to be cut off. LaRue said the front of the vehicle went through the building.

“There is no structural damage to the building that would condemn or close it,” LaRue said.

Smith Township police are investigating the accident.
