Second victim in fatal Carroll Township crash identified

The Washington County coroner on Friday identified the second victim in a deadly crash in Carroll Township this week.

According to a news release issued by Tim Warco, Linda Blanker, 81, of Venetia, was driving north on Route 837 near Donora Road about 1:15 p.m. Thursday when the accident occurred. The other victim, identified late Thursday as Michael Bove, 48, of McMurray, was southbound.

Carroll Township Police Chief Paul Brand said his department continues to investigate the accident, but the preliminary assessment indicates that Bove may have been speeding, based on several witness accounts and the severity of damage.

According to Brand, Blanker may have crossed the double yellow line into the southbound lane.

Both Blanker and Bove’s cause and manner of death are pending investigation.

The road was closed for several hours.

Carroll Township police were assisted by state police, Donora police, Monongahela police, and Carroll Township Donora and Valley Inn fire departments. Tri Community EMS and the state Department of Transportation also responded.

This story has been updated to correct inaccurate information regarding which direction each driver was headed.
