Kimberly Stevenson was seen hanging around John F. Kennedy Catholic School recently – literally.
The school’s principal was taped to a closet door on the main floor of the school at 111 W. Spruce St. in Washington. There she remained for about two hours as part of a fundraiser to culminate Catholic Schools Week.
“We did that as a little fundraiser for the kids,” Stevenson explained. “It was a dollar for a strip of tape. The kids got their strip of tape and it was applied to me by an adult. That was the way I showed my school spirit to the kids.”
Catholic Schools Week – the annual celebration of Catholic schools – took place Jan. 27 through Feb. 2.
The fundraiser generated $516.
Stevenson, wrapped in a plastic garbage bag to prevent the duct tape from sticking to her clothes, said she was pretty hot during the stunt.
“They pulled the chair out from under me and I was stuck,” she said. “You have to stand on a chair while they’re taping you up.”
Stevenson said the students got a kick out of seeing their principal hanging from the door.
“Oh, my gosh, they loved it,” she said. “Some were so sad that I was up there. They felt bad as I was saying, ‘Are you really going to pay for me to be taped up here?’ Others would laugh. All of the kids from the preschool kids to the eighth-graders, they absolutely loved it.”
Stevenson shared a special message with her students.
“I told them thanks for sticking with me through Catholic Schools Week, then we all sang the school alma mater,” she said. “It was beautiful.”
