The American Red Cross is helping two families who were displaced by a fire in Washington Tuesday afternoon.

The fire occurred at about 3 p.m. at 644 E. Maiden St., a residence containing two apartments.

Nicole Roschella, regional communications director for the Red Cross, said they are providing assistance to two adults and four children.

The Red Cross will help families with housing, food and other forms of relief after an event like a fire. Roschella declined to say to what extent the Red Cross is assisting the families.

“Out of respect for these families and their privacy, I won’t go into that detail on their behalf. We’re thankful to be able to help meet their needs so they can begin to recover from this disaster,” Roschella said in an email.
