Marianna man charged with possession of child pornography

A Marianna man was arrested last week on 20 charges related to possession of child pornography.
John Hampton Mook, 52, is accused in court records of downloading several illicit files to a phone he received from his employer.
State police first received a tip about Mook’s internet activity in April 2023. Police served a search warrant at Mook’s home in the 500 block of Fourth Street Friday morning.
According to the complaint, a search of Mook’s phone turned up eight files including the sexual abuse of children.
Mook was arraigned Friday afternoon before District Judge Curtis Thompson, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $110,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Feb. 5.
