North Strabane Township police investigating bank robbery
North Strabane Township police are investigating a Wednesday morning bank robbery, the second to occur this week in Washington County.
According to police, officers were called to the First National Bank branch at 2620 Washington Road at about 9:50 a.m.
Police said a man entered the bank and handed a teller a threatening note demanding money. Images from surveillance footage provided by police shows the man wearing a hat and a surgical mask.
It was not clear how much money, if any, the suspect took. North Strabane police Cpt. Matthew Mancini said the man did not display any weapons, but otherwise declined to comment on the investigation beyond a press release posted to the department’s Facebook page.
The incident was similar to a bank robbery in Washington Monday morning. A man wearing a hood and surgical mask walked into Washington Financial Bank on East Wylie Avenue and handed a teller a note demanding money. The note also threatened the lives of people inside if the teller did not comply.
In that robbery, the culprit was handed a couple hundred of dollars from the teller’s drawer, according to Washington police.
Washington police also responded to the scene of the North Strabane robbery Wednesday morning. Investigators are working to learn if the robberies are related, but Mancini said it is currently not clear.
North Strabane contacted the FBI to assist with the investigation.
