Monongahela tavern damaged in fire
A Monongahela bar sustained significant damage in a fire Friday morning.
No injuries were reported in the fire at Main Street Tavern, 225 W. Main St., which was unoccupied at the time.
Aaron Benney, Monongahela assistant fire chief, said firefighters were dispatched at 6:11 a.m.
“There was fire coming out the back door,” Benney said. “It looked like the fire was contained to the rear of the structure. It was a quick knock-down. The main fire was knocked down within a couple minutes. After that, it was a lot of hot spots.”
Benney said the tavern suffered “a good amount” of smoke and water damage to the interior of the building. The roof had to be ventilated in three different areas. No other nearby buildings were damaged.
Monongahela firefighters were at the fire station, located just down the street from the tavern, when the fire call came in, having just responded to a dumpster fire in the same block as the tavern, according to Washington County 911.
The state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire.
Also responding to the fire were fire companies Carroll Township, Valley Inn, New Eagle, Bentleyville and Donora. Monongahela police also were on scene.
