Trinity Area School District has received a grant of more than $660,000 to support a safe, healthy environment for students.
The district received a total of $660,101 as part of more than $39 million in grant funding for 36 school districts in 21 counties across the commonwealth.
The goal of the funding is to establish a safe, healthy and supportive learning environment in public elementary and secondary schools and to prevent and respond to acts of bullying, hate and violence in schools.
“Students deserve safe and welcoming school environments that allow them to learn, grow and thrive without fear for their physical safety or mental health, and this funding will enable schools to provide those critical learning environments for their communities,” said Secretary of Education Dr. Khalid N. Mumin in a news release. “By prioritizing the wellness of our learners and educators, we can ensure future generations of Pennsylvanians leave school equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to be happy, productive, engaged citizens.”
Through the federal Bipartisan Safer Communities Act Stronger Connections Grant, schools can use funding to support the social, emotional, physical and mental well-being of students and staff, address family and community engagement and promote equitable and inclusive policies and practices.
Trinity is the only district in Washington County to receive funds.
The funding complements Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposal for a nearly $1.1 billion increase in basic education funding in the commonwealth.
