Washington police arrested a man on an attempted homicide and other charges in connection with a shooting Tuesday night that left another man injured.
Justice Lamar Walden, 29, of Washington, faces felony charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a firearm.
According to the criminal complaint, Walden fired multiple shots toward Charles Paith, who was standing outside of his home in the 50 block of Burton Avenue, shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Though Paith attempted to take cover, he was struck by a bullet in the abdomen. A woman and two children were near Paith at the time, but were uninjured.
Arresting officer Detective Jordan Faust said the shots came from an “elevated position.” Court documents state that Walden likely fired the shots from the upstairs apartment at 61 Burton Ave.
Paith went to Washington Hospital and was not at the scene when police arrived. When police spoke to him at the hospital, Paith said he did not realize he had been hit until after the shooting stopped. He was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Walden was arrested a short time later at a house in the 200 block of Maple Avenue.
“He had fled with his girlfriend from the scene, but we were able to locate the vehicle in the city elsewhere,” Faust said.
Police executed a search warrant at Walden’s apartment and found four spent bullet casings.
Walden was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge Joshua Kanalis, who sent him to the Washington County jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. May 22.
