Cannonball incoming: Public pools ready to open for summer

The further one wades into Ryerson Station State Park’s zero gravity pool, the deeper the water gets. A big, green, twisty slide splashes into the deep end of the pool, and the complex’s on-site spray park adds another element of fun to the water amenity.

Need to beat the heat? This Memorial Day weekend many of the region’s public pools will be opening their doors to anyone in need of a dip. Check below for information on when the pool closest to you will be open, and how much admission will cost.

Washington County

Canonsburg Town Park Pool

Canonsburg

Those in the Canonsburg area can look forward to taking their first swim of the summer on Saturday.

The Canonsburg Town Park Pool will be open noon to 6 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Veterans with ID will gain free entry.

The pool will then close for a few days before reopening on May 31, the last day of school, from 1 to 7 p.m. It will then be open daily noon to 6 p.m. June 1 to Aug. 21.

Night swims will take place on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Night swims will occur between June 19 and Aug. 14.

The “Last Splashes of Summer” will be on Aug. 24 and 25 from noon to 6 p.m. and Aug. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Washington Park Pool

Washington

Washington Park Pool will be open Memorial Day from noon to 6 p.m., and then close for the remainder of the week.

The pool will reopen on June 1 and will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m. until Sept. 2.

Daily admission for city residents is $6 or $7 for non-residents.

Greene County

Carmichaels Pool

Carmichaels

Carmichaels Pool will remain closed this summer due to repairs. Over the summer, old cast-iron pipes beneath the pool will be replaced.

Greene County Water Park

200 East Roy Furman Highway

Waynesburg

The Greene County Water Park is slated to open on June 1, and will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m.

Admission to the park will be $8 for children and $10 for adults.

Mon View Pool

377 Stoney Hill Road

Greensboro

The Mon View pool will open on June 1 and will maintain the same hours as Greene County Water Park, daily from noon. to 6 p.m.

Mon View Pool admission will cost $6 for children and $8 for adults.

Individual memberships can be purchased for $130 per child, and $160 per adult.

Ryerson Station State Park Pool

Both the swimming pool and spray park at Ryerson Station State Park Pool will be open daily 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Fayette County

Franklin Township Community Pool

Vanderbilt

Fayette County’s sole public pool, located in Franklin Township, will open for the season on Saturday.

The Franklin Township Community Pool will be open daily from noon to 8 p.m.

Admission is $10 for a day pass, while children 4 and younger swim for free. Season passes are available for $110 per person.

Allegheny County

Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park

The outdoor swimming pool at Boyce Mayview Park will open for the season on Saturday

The pool will remain open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the end of summer.

On holidays, including Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day, outdoor pool hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Daily admission is open to the community and recreation center members and their guests, with a limited number of daily passes available for non-members.

Non-members must reserve pool time in advance. The pool is open to non-members Monday through Friday only.

Dormont Pool

1801 Dormont Ave.

Pittsburgh

The Dormont Pool will begin operating on Saturday and remain open through Sept. 2.

The pool will be open weekdays from noon to 7:30 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on weekends. From May 28 to June 7 and Aug. 19 to Aug. 30, the pool will only be open from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The slide will not be open during these shortened weeks.

Dormont’s pool will also be closed the first Monday of each month. Admission is $8.

Mt. Lebanon Swim Center

The Mt. Lebanon Swim Center opens on Saturday and is scheduled to remain open until at least Aug. 19.

The pool will be open on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. The pool will remain operating on a limited schedule until the last day of school on June 7.

Mt. Lebanon may add additional days to the schedule past Aug. 19.

Scott Pool

Swim season at the Scott Township pool begins Memorial Day weekend.

The pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday through Monday, and then will switch to a more limited schedule until June 8.

Regular hours will be 1 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and noon to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Admission for Scott Township children is $7 and $9 for adults. Non-resident children can enter the pool for $10, while admission for non-resident adults is $14.
