Peters Township

Child endangerment: Jenna Nicole Tigner, 26, of McDonald, was charged Monday by Peters Township police with endangering the welfare of children. According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Intermediate Unit 1 at 625 E. McMurray Road shortly before 11 a.m. Witnesses told officers that Tigner had dropped off her 8-year-old son, who was refusing to go inside. Tigner is accused of getting back into her vehicle and accelerating forward while the child was standing in front of the car, though surveillance footage showed her maneuver around him. The boy began walking away from the school, and officers found him standing in a puddle of mud in the 700 block of East McMurray. Tigner was arraigned Monday afternoon before District Judge Phillippe Melograne, who sent her to the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 1.

Burglary: Stefano Roberto Cortez-Munoz, 30, who is described in court records as homeless but originally from Chile, was charged by Peters Township police Tuesday with burglary, criminal trespassing, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. According to the criminal complaint, the charges stem from a burglary that occurred the evening of Feb. 24, 2023, at a home in the 100 block of Springdale Road. A resident returned home to find someone had broken in through a rear door and stole more than $36,000 in cash and valuables. Police recovered DNA from the scene and sent it to the state police crime lab in Greensburg. Peters police received a report on March 1 of this year that matched a sample from a similar break-in in Abington Township, Montgomery County, that occurred last March. The DNA was matched to Cortez-Munoz, who was arrested in Oklahoma in August 2022. There is an active warrant for his arrest.
