Raymond H. Briggs, 86, of West Mifflin, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in Sycamore Estate, Duquesne.

He was born February 28, 1926, in Washington County, son of the late Oakie C. Caldwell and Jessie Briggs, adopted son of Russell Briggs.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Cora June Mounts Briggs; a son, David R. (Merlene) Briggs of McKeesport; daughters Janice R. (Paul) Studt of Bethel Park and Renee A. (John) Linehan of Hawthorne, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Eric and Brian Studt, Charles (Carly), Timothy, John and Kathleen Linehan and Paula and Joel Pawski; six brothers and sisters, Russell (the late Norma) Briggs, James (Edith) Briggs, Doris Gene (the late David) Gay, Glenn (Holly) Briggs, Lola Caldwell (the late Ed) Telatovich and James Caldwell; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Steven J. Briggs, and four sisters, Frances Elizabeth Caldwell (in infancy), Geraldine (the late Doug) Magee, Gayle (the late Dan) King and Doris Caldwell (Zac) Howard.

In 1943, he graduated from Washington High School, while residing with his grandmother, Sadie Bryner.

Mr. Briggs served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force and later in the Air Force Reserves.

He was a 1952 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College.

Mr. Briggs taught in West Mifflin Area School District for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and held a private pilot’s license for many years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Duquesne, where he served as an elder, lay reader and choir member.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 9, in First Presbyterian Church, 719 Duquesne Boulevard, Duquesne, PA 15110. A reception of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home.
