Robert P. Edwards

Robert P. Edwards, 90, of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born December 9, 1922, in Coal Center, a son of the late Freemont Emery and Alfleda Hickman Edwards.

Mr. Edwards was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 767th Military Police in Panama City, Panama. For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.

In 1984, Mr. Edwards retired from U.S. Steel’s Maple Creek Mine.

He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1648, a lifelong member of Hanson-Cole-American Legion Post 391 Fredericktown and a member of Fredericktown United Methodist Church.

Mr. Edwards enjoyed woodworking, fishing, swimming and building model boats.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

On May 13, 1955, he married E. Louise Patterson, who died October 14, 2004.

Surviving are five children, Laura A. Kinder (Ernest) of Fredericktown, Ronald “Rocky” Crawford (Tracy) of Marianna, Margaret K. Edwards (Kevin C. Smith) of Denbo Heights, Joseph E. Edwards of Hickory and Alfleda “Bobbi” Bane (Robin) of Eighty Four; 15 grandchildren, Tina Hughes, Timothy, Jordan and Kristina Kinder, Amanda Boltich, Thomas and Lindsey Crawford, Cristen and Rocco Edwards, Robin Bane Jr., Christina Wiszczor, Sarah Edwards, Rebecca Sanders, Sabrina Kyper and Chad P.E. Kyper; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Constance Vaughn of Reading and Kaye Ruffner (Les) of Millersville, Md.; a brother, Ray Edwards (Barbara) of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a son, Robert Clark Edwards; a grandson, Ernest Kinder Jr.; a granddaughter, Meghan Crawford; and a sister, Audra Edwards.

Private funeral services and full military rites were held Thursday, December 20, in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Donnell House in care of Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
