Sara Smiley Wood, 86, of Washington, formerly of Uniontown, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Southminster Place, Washington.
She was born June 12, 1926, in Uniontown, a daughter of James Russell Smiley and Laura A. Silbaugh Smiley.
In addition to her parents, deceased are her husband, Paul B. Wood, in 2001, and brother, James Smiley, in 1996.
Surviving are three children, Douglas P. Wood and fiancee Windi Oehms of Centreville, Va., Shelley W. Songer and husband Paul of Washington and Jeffery R. Wood and wife Karen of Johnstown; and five grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen and Adam Wood of Johnstown and Steven and Julie Songer of Washington.
Mrs. Wood graduated from Uniontown High School with the Class of 1944 and attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Uniontown and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends for more than 50 years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home, 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 22, in the funeral home, followed by a memorial service celebrating Mrs. Wood’s life at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodside Unit, Southminster Place, 880 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301, or Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
