John Edward Newell

John Edward Newell, 65, of Washington, died Thursday, December 20, 2012, in Donnell House, Washington, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 16, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Lester and Sarah Clonen Newell.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army with the USARPAC.

Mr. Newell was a diesel mechanic and worked mainly for Peterbilt Trucks in Columbus.

He made his home in Washington with his companion of 18 years, Jo Ann Pratt, and her family.

Various family members survive in the Columbus area.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home Inc., 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, and Douglas M. Jones, director. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 27, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 175.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Association for the Blind, 566 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301. Messages of condolence may be left at www.hummellandbarnhill.com.
