John Dalbo Jr., 81, of Canonsburg, died Friday, December 21, 2012, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born October 8, 1931, in Chartiers Township, a son of the late John Sr. and Helen Tilger Dalbo.
Mr. Dalbo was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. During his military service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, United Nations Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation.
For more than 35 years, he was employed at Western Center as a labor foreman.
He served as head trustee at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 for many years and was instrumental in the founding of the VFW/Canonsburg Ambulance Service. Under his tenure, VFW Post 191 had the second highest membership in the state. Through the VFW, he assisted the community in many ways.
Mr. Dalbo loved baseball and was involved in youth baseball for many years.
His greatest joy in his life was to make sure that he took care of all family members, always. He was always concerned about family and friends.
Deceased is his wife, Dolores Chytil Dalbo, who died in 1978.
Surviving are a daughter, Lori Collins of Canonsburg; a sister, Dorothy Gunther of Houston; two grandchildren, Cara Ogrodowski and Bradley Jox; a great-granddaughter, Julia Ogrodowski; and two nieces, Susan Harrower and Sharon Gunther.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 27. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 191.
