Jack Alan Patterson
Jack Alan Patterson, 77, of Washington, walked into the presence of his Lord Jesus in the early morning hours Saturday, December 22, 2012.
He was born September 11, 1935, in Washington, a son of Homer Patterson Jr. and Mary Jane Rockwell Bennett Patterson. He was a grandson of Homer and Ella Patterson of Middletown.
Mr. Patterson was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and served five years in the Air Force.
He was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church in South Strabane Township.
Mr. Patterson was an avid reader and a family historian. He attended college in Santa Barbara, Calif., and Point Park and was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, where he worked for several years as an office registered nurse. He opened Western State School and Hospital for mentally disabled children and adults with his cousin, Alan West, M.D.
In 1968, he opened Troutman’s store in Washington, where he worked as the store display manager, and he was director of the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant until 1976.
On June 8, 1974, in First Christian Church, he married Melissa Richardson of Washington, who survives.
For the next 10 years, Mr. Patterson planned and opened the Jefferson Avenue Shop ‘n Save with the Bozovich family. He worked for them as the produce and assistant store manager until 1983.
In 1986, he started a 16-year career with the Department of Defense as a commissary officer and restored and rebuilt commissaries in Fort Mammoth, N.J., New Cumberland, Md., and Oakdale Titan Missile Base Commissary and returned in 2001.
In 1992, Mr. Patterson was blessed to become a father; his daughter, Leslee Marie Patterson, was born and was the apple of his eye and survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Jane (William) Boyd of Silver Springs, Md.; brothers-in-law Jim (Lorraine) Richardson of Coraopolis and Phil (Linda) Richardson of Mt. Joy; sisters-in-law Jean Patterson of Washington, Dorothy Patterson of Brownsville and Diane Patterson of Washington; aunt Alice Kelly of West Middletown; and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews, all around the United States.
Deceased are three brothers, Norman Patterson, Homer Patterson and Harry Patterson.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Friday, December 28, in Abundant Life Baptist Church, Cameron Road, Washington, with Pastor George Garanconsky officiating.
