Mary Kathryn Morley

Mary Kathryn Morley, 85, of West Alexander, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 25, 2012, in her home.

She was born October 4, 1927, in West Alexander, a daughter of the late Frank Emmett and Willa Marie Jenkins Reed.

Mrs. Morley was a 1945 graduate of the former West Alexander High School and earned her bachelor of arts degree in music from West Liberty (W.Va.) State College.

She had resided in the state of Ohio for several years, where she taught both elementary and secondary music, retiring from Youngstown School District in 1981 with 31 years of service and returning to West Alexander in 1983.

Mrs. Morley continued her gift of music by directing the West Alexander Presbyterian Church choir and introducing area youth to the world of music from classes taught in her home for several years.

She was a member of West Alexander Presbyterian Church and West Alexander American Legion Post 656 Auxiliary for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Morley was a member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

On December 3, 1966, she married John Daniel Morley, who died February 16, 1996.

Surviving are stepdaughter, Mary Alice, wife of Don Wilson of Hartford, Conn.; two stepgrandchildren, Thomas Ray, husband of Kate Donohue, and Morley Danielle, wife of Todd Wittenberg; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Graham and Meyer Wittenberg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a sister, Laurena C. Reed, and two brothers, James J. and William C. Reed.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in West Alexander Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, with the Rev. Keith Hornung officiating. Interment will follow in West Alexander Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Legion Auxiliary or West Alexander Presbyterian Church, Box 303, West Alexander, PA 15376.
