John Novacich

John Novacich, 84, of Point Marion, died Friday, December 28, 2012, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born April 16, 1928, in Nemacolin, a son of the late Jvan and Kathryn Sebetich Novacich.

Mr. Novacich was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a longtime member of St. Hubert’s Roman Catholic Church and Point Marion Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Novacich served on borough council and volunteered delivering Meals-on-Wheels for many years.

Retiring in 1984 from Consol’s Osage Mine, he had previously worked at the butcher shop in Mather, Point Marion Hardware and on river tugboats.

In his spare time, he was an avid woodworker and made many beautiful pieces for his family.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Rose Wozniak Novacich; three children and spouses, John A. and Margaret Novacich, Roxane and Gregg Garland, all of Point Marion, and Matthew and Tracy Novacich of Newark, Del.; four grandchildren, Matthew John and Jacki Novacich and Bryant and Derek Garland; and a niece, Sandra Dulik and husband Steve of Jefferson.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and until 9:30 a.m., the time of service, Monday, December 31, in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Hubert’s Church, Point Marion. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion. Parish vigil service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
